EB-5 Visa: Green Cards Through Investment in America
The United States encourages investment in business ventures by foreign-born entrepreneurs and professionals through EB-5 investment visas. These programs generate capital investment in the U.S. economy and create jobs for American workers at no cost to the government.
If you would like to start, purchase or expand a business venture in the U.S., the immigration attorneys of Ferman Law in Minnesota and London, are here to help. Immigrant Investor Visa Programs
The Regular Program requires that a new venture:
- Be created through an investment of at least $1 million.
- Benefit the U.S. economy by providing goods or services to the U.S. market.
- Create full-time employment for at least 10 U.S. workers.
The Regular Program for Targeted Employment Areas and/or Rural Areas requires that the enterprise created under this program must meet the criteria above, with the following modifications:
- The investment must be at least $500,000.
- The business must be created in an area of less than 20,000 in population, or in an area of high unemployment — at least 150 percent of the national average.
EB-5 Regional Centers allow immigrant investors to make a passive investment. A Regional Center is an entity with a targeted investment program within a defined geographic region, which has already been approved as a qualified investment opportunity. There are literally dozens of Regional Centers. The amount which must be invested in a Regional Center is usually $500,000. However, there are some which require a $1 million investment. This is a pilot program and is subject to reauthorization by Congress.
You do not have to be fabulously wealthy to take advantage of this program. We have had clients finance their investments by selling their homes in the London area.
